We feel we must clarify if you have to upgrade all your first aid kits or not. After contacting the HSE we have come to the conclusion that as long as you have performed a risk assessment for the risk in your factory / workplace and that you concluded that there is no need for any more first aid cover than the standard HSE kit you may have, then there is no need to upgrade to the new standard. You may conclude that you need to add cover for a particular risk, such as the risk of burns injuries, which would be less expensive than buying a new kit.
However, the new kits allow an easy solution to the employer to ensure there compliance to the new guidelines laid out in BS8599.
